Cambodia welcomes 2.1 million foreign tourists in first four months of 2024

Cambodia welcomed 2.11 million foreign tourists in the first four months of this year, up 23% from the same period last year, according to a report from the Ministry of Tourism.

Thailand topped the list of foreign arrivals to Cambodia during the period with 588,312 visitors, although the figure represents a 3.2% decrease from last year.

Nearly 825,000 visitors, or about 39% of the total foreign tourist arrivals, entered Cambodia through airports, up 30.1% year-on-year, and the rest through land border gates and waterways, the report said.

H.E. Top Sopheak, permanent secretary and spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism, said the figures clearly showed that Cambodia's tourism sector was on the road to recovery, although it had not yet returned to the levels seen before the COVID-19 crisis.

"The Royal Government, through the Ministry of Tourism, is making efforts to work with relevant parties and the private sector to promote the tourism potential to attract more foreign tourists to visit Cambodia," he said.

At the same time, the ministry's report showed that Cambodia's outbound tourism also increased by 2.2% to 582,986 in the first four months of this year.

The ministry also recorded 7.8 million domestic visitors to the country's tourist destinations.

Last year, the Kingdom received 5.45 million foreign visitors, generating gross receipts of US$3.08 billion, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
