Cambodia & Tourism: Making the most of the Kulen destination

His Excellency Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism, and Lok Chumteav led a delegation from the Ministry of Tourism, accompanied by representatives from the Provincial Department of Tourism, the Provincial Department of Environment, the National Apsara Authority, the Banteay Srei District Administration and the Svay Leu District Administration, to Jayavarman-Norodom National Park in Phnom Kulen.

During their visit, they explored the Preah Ang Thom waterfall and the 1000 Lingas area in order to study, evaluate and organise the Phnom Kulen resort area with a view to transforming it into a more attractive and suitable natural tourism corridor.

“Our ambition is actually to develop Phnom Kulen to transform this destination into a combination of spiritual tourism, nature and adventure”, the Minister emphasised.

On this occasion, the Minister also advocated updating the mechanism of the Cambodian Tourism Promotion and Marketing Board (CBT). The Minister also called for the promotion of a green belt in the region where farmers could grow all kinds of vegetables, fish and raise livestock to supply the tourism industry.

The Minister repeatedly stressed the importance of promoting Kulen as a destination for tourism, nature and adventure, as well as research and science. He strongly recommended the development of an ecotourism corridor in the Jayavarman-Norodom-Phnom Kulen national park.

« Notre ambition est en fait de développer Phnom Kulen pour transformer cette destination en combinant tourisme spirituel, nature et aventure », a souligné le ministre.

The cradle of the ancient Khmer Empire, Phnom Kulen is home to numerous archaeological sites, ancient temples and intricate sculptures that offer a unique insight into Cambodia's history and heritage.
