Cambodia: Royal Government and policies to support veterans

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government has implemented many policies, including the National Social Security Fund for veterans.

The premier spoke on Wednesday on the occasion of the celebration of the 17th Cambodian Veterans Day. Samdech Thipadei underlined, "As long as the Cambodian People's Party has the opportunity to lead, we will continue to prioritize the lives and honour of veterans and former civil servants. We must keep improving their conditions and continue to support each other."

On the occasion, the PM highlighted that in the past, the Royal Government only offered pensions to veterans, but now they have implemented a policy to provide housing.

"In some cases, veterans only had land and were homeless. We have taken steps to build houses for them on their land," he added.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Health for issuing treatment certificates to veterans in state hospitals. He noted, "We have 79 regional hospitals under the Ministry of National Defence that provide free treatment. This includes military hospitals stationed across the country, ensuring healthcare access with their equity cards."

It should be noted that the Royal Government of Cambodia committed to providing healthcare services towards the universal health coverage program by starting from:

1) providing healthcare services to about 450,000 at-risk households, consisting of more than 1.5 million people, through health equity fund.

2) expanding healthcare services under Social Security Funds for both workers and civil servants, which together covers over 3 million family members and dependents, starting on a voluntarily basis. In sum, both programs will benefit approximately 7.4 million people through Social Security Funds for healthcare services.
